COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT THROUGH EDUCATION AND OUTREACH
The Camellia Symphony Orchestra is dedicated to engaging and educating its community. Through free concerts, club lectures and our education program, CSO is doing its part to bring classical music into the lives of all Sacramentans.

The following programs are part of the newly expanded CSO education program:
EDUCATION COMPONENTS
Elementary Level Opportunities:
Music Lesson Plan and Workbook
Teachers and children may explore the world of a symphony orchestra through the K-3 and 4-6 Lesson Plans and Workbooks. The lesson plans are written for teachers with little or no music background. There are two lessons and the workbooks feature age appropriate activities as well as a 2-for-1 ticket coupon for the children. Feedback from participating teachers and students has been very positive.
Musical Suitcases
The “Musical Suitcases” may function as a stand alone learning tool or become part of the Lesson Plan and Work Book experience mentioned above. When completed, they will feature age appropriate videos, musical instruments, books, a hand puppet and many other items for the children’s musical education and enjoyment.
Musician Visiting Class Rooms
Again, this activity is suggested as part of the lesson plan and workbook experience, but it may stand alone as a fun and educational half-hour classroom instruction. A CSO musician will visit a classroom upon request and talk a little about their instrument, when they started playing, what music means to them and what its like to play in a symphony orchestra. Classes are also offered 2-for-1 tickets to the next concert.
Middle School Opportunities:
Music Class Concert/Composer Information Series
This activity includes an overview of the music and composers for any one of CSO’s upcoming concerts. Musicians from the orchestra visit various area middle and high school music classes. They present information about our orchestra and the upcoming concert. Students are also given concert synopsis fliers which include a two-for-one ticket opportunity to that concert. We are seeking an underwriter to expand this program.
High School Opportunities:
Master Classes and Side-By-Side Concerts
CSO musicians participate in master classes and/or sectional rehearsals of one or more significant orchestral works, culminating with a "side-by-side" concert featuring your students and the Camellia Symphony Orchestra. Our high school activities are provided at a high level and so are extremely time- and resource-intensive. Thus they require additional sponsorship funding. Contact the CSO Executive Director for details.
This program was developed with funding from the Kelly Foundation and the Teichert Foundation in memory of Dr. Edward Rudin, a great and gentle citizen of the world who worked so hard to build a future of peace.
