Camellia Juniors and Camellia Cadets Orchestras:

Youth orchestras for high school and middle school string students

Camellia Symphony Orchestra (CSO) has 2 student orchestras: Camellia Juniors Orchestra (CJO) for grades 9-12 and Junior Cadets (CJC) for grades 6-8. This program is for string students who want to play in an orchestra and either are not offered the opportunity at their school or wish to expand their musical opportunities.

General Program Information:

The season runs from September through May.

Sunday May 19   CJO/C combined concert – POPS

If there is an orchestra at your school, you will need to be a participant or make arrangements with the teacher. This will be verified.

There will be 3-to-4 regular performances plus other community performances as opportunities arise.

Rehearsals are at Sutter Middle School from 7:00-8:30pm. CJO rehearses are on Wednesday and CJC on Thursday.

To help cover the cost, we ask each member for a chair sponsorship of $250.

The sponsorship entitles the sponsor to 2 season passes to the Camellia Symphony concerts.Download Program Sponsorship Form

CJO & CJC members attend Symphony concerts for free.

Auditions:

Auditions are used to develop a quality ensemble. However, the idea is not to frighten applicants but rather to establish the level of the group as a whole.

Date & Time of Auditions:

CJO/C Auditions: Wednesday June 5th.

Times assigned upon receipt of your application.

Where the Audition will take place:

Sutter Middle School, 3150 “I” Street, Sacramento, CA 95816 Room 110.

What to Play:

1) A scale of your choice; CJO – 2 octave, CJC – 1 octave

2) Short prepared solo. Select a SHORT piece that shows your best

3) Short sight-reading

Adjudicators will score musicians on the following: Intonation – Technique – Tone & Vibrato- Sight-reading ability – Rhythm – Musicianship

You will be notified of your results within 2 weeks.
