Eugene F. Castillo The Camellia Symphony
Orchestra's music director, Eugene F. Castillo, is among a chosen few
who have been selected to be profiled and showcased in the prestigious
second National Conducting Institute at the John F. Kennedy Center for
the Performing Arts. Director Leonard Slatkin has nothing but
praise for Maestro Castillo and his associates. "The level
of the applicants we have received, clearly demonstrates the need for
this institute. We have highly qualified, extremely gifted
conductors. All of us look forward to working with
them." Eugene Castillo is in his fourth season with
Camellia. The institute's program is designed to assist the
careers of young, emerging conductors who were chosen through a highly
competitive selection process.
Eugene served as the assistant conductor of the Long Beach Symphony
Orchestra, the Pasadena Symphony, and as staff conductor with the San
Francisco Ballet in 1998. He held a teaching post at C.S.U.,
Long Beach, has conducted in the U.S., Mexico, England, and Italy; and
has been a particular favorite of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
He is a native of Los Angeles, where he earned the degree of Master of
Music in Conducting with Distinction at C.S.U., Northridge.
Currently he is an Adjunct Faculty member at American River College.
